Final Thoughts

Price

The Kingston HyperX Predator RGB DDR4 16GB Kit (HX429C15PB3AK2/16) is available now from Amazon and other major retailers for just £235.41. Furthermore, the 4 x 8 GB kit is now just £456.88. That’s hardly cheap, but it’s on par with similar specification models from rival brands.

Overview

I absolutely love this memory kit just on the design alone. It’s some of the most bad-ass looking memory I’ve ever seen, and I can think of many systems builds including my own where it would look right at home. Sure, the aggressive look may be an acquired taste, but with so many variants on the market, it never hurts to have so many designs to choose from.

Build Quality

This is quite literally the strong point for HyperX. The latest Predator kit looks and feels over-engineered, and I mean that in a good way. It feels as robust as it looks, and those heavy metal heatsinks will be able to shift some serious heat with relative ease. They look great, but they’re every bit as practical as they should be. The spreaders offer up plenty of surface area for heat dissipation and are screwed securely to the memory modules.

Aesthetics

The RGB lighting market isn’t often innovative, but HyperX found a way to innovate regardless. The modules use Infrared Sync Technology, allowing the modules to communicate with each other and ensure they’re displaying the same colour patterns. Normally, this would require software and cables to each module, but not any more! It’s clean looking, it works great and it is tech you wouldn’t even realise is there doing its job.

Performance

I have no issues with the performance here, and while they weren’t the fastest kit we’ve tested, they’re priced about right to reflect their speeds too. The Predator overclocked as well as I expected though, pushing from 2933MHz to a more satisfying 3866MHz. This saw some big gains in read, write and copy performance at the cost of slightly higher latency. Overall, a great kit for gamers and overclockers alike.
