i-Rocks Golem K50E Gaming Keyboard Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The i-Rocks Golem Series K50E Scissor-Switch Gaming Keyboard is a little short on stock in the UK at the moment, but that’s often to be expected with a new product. However, you can pick one up from most major EU retailers for around 49.95 EUR.

Overview

Wow, am I impressed with this keyboard! It’s got all the features your average gamer is likely to need and enough extra bells and whistles on top of that to even satisfy those who take their gaming quite serious, such as pro gamers.

The switches on this are easily the biggest selling point and while they certainly have a unique characteristic compared to any other keyboard I’ve ever reviewed, they have a lot of the hallmarks of other popular switch types. The scissor switch type is nice and linear with a really good bounce, much like an MX Red switch. There’s a nice tactile bump similar to MX Brown and the keys are super quiet and have a dampened action when fully depressed, much like a membrane switch key. So you’re really getting a lot of the best aspects of each.

What’s really special about these switches, aside from them feeling and performing like a premium keyboard, is that this keyboard isn’t priced like a mechanical keyboard. The i-rocks works out at roughly £35 here in the UK, a comparable mechanical would be closer to twice that. If you can’t afford a full mechanical, then this is a perfect fit for most people’s budgets and not that much more expensive than most gaming focused membrane keyboards.

Build quality is really nice overall and the general design of the keyboard is smart enough that you would be quite happy to show it off to your friends. Extra touches such as the LED lighting are always a welcome treat too, only further adding to the appeal of this keyboard.

Pros

  • Excellent performance
  • Responsive switches
  • LED backlighting
  • Anti-ghosting
  • Competitive price
  • Nice design
  • Dedicated volume controls

Cons

  • Limited availability in UK
  • No dedicated multimedia controls

“A great design, a budget friendly price tag and exceptional performance. The Golum may be one of the best keyboards you can buy for under £50!”
