Icy Dock MB080U3S-1SB Blizzard 3.5″ SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Review

In comparison to some of the Icy Dock products that we’ve taken a look at recently, the Blizzard enclosure comes in a much larger box. Looking at the picture on the box, its no wonder why due to the front fan profile which we’ll have a look at later on. Along the bottom of the box, there are a number of images representing various features of the enclosure and to the left of these are two model number representing the USB3.0 and Firewire 800 variants of the drive that are available.
Turning around the box its business as usual for Icy dock with the model name in a number of languages and the specifications listed below.
On one end of the box, there is some further information on the front mounted fan and the enclosures smart cooling system that can be set to automatically raise the fan speed when drive temperatures are above 50 degrees. At this point the LEDs in the back of the enclosure also turn to red as a form of warning indicator.
Alongside the manual, there is a pair of clip-in legs that attach to the bottom of the enclosure. On the underside of these are rubber feet that help to reduce resonant noise and also stop the enclosure from sliding on smooth surfaces.
Alongside the above, we also have a mains power adaptor, USB3.0 cable and eSATA cable.
