Icy Dock MB559U3S SuperSpeed External 3.5″ SATA Hard Drive Enclosure Review

Taking our first look at the enclosure, initial thoughts are wow, how can something so like this be so minimalistic yet look so sleek? The outer frame of the enclosure is constructed from a single piece of aluminium which wraps around both sides and underneath, then the remainder is made up in this instance with white plastic. We can also see along the top a number of ventilation holes to keep the drive cool.
On the underside of the enclosure we find two pairs of feet, which come out when a button is pressed on the back to release them. The feet spring out and can easily be pushed back in locking them back in the closed position.
On the front, we find a silver arm which is released by pushing the grey tab to the side. The arm then flips out and enables the tray to be pulled out of the enclosure. Installing the tray is simply a case of the removal process reversed finalising by pushing the arm back into the frame where it locks into place.
Sliding the tray out of the enclosure, we find a support bar keeping the hard drive drive frame in shape during shipping and removes by undoing a single screw on one side.
Around the back, starting from the left we have an on/off rocker switch, DC power jack, USB3.0, eSATA, Kensington lock and the afore mentioned button to release the spring loaded feet to stand the enclosure upright.
