A Closer Look – IS 40

The IS 40 is a fairly similar design, albeit much smaller and with a more in proportion fan to the fin array underneath. I’m not certain about the brown colour scheme, but most systems that require a cooler this small is going to need a window, so don’t judge it’s looks too quickly if you’re never going to see it once it’s installed.

The fan is held in place by two retention clips, so it’s easily removed for maintenance. The fan features a standard 4-pin PWM connector.

The low profile design is great, as it’ll fit virtually any chassis you can think of, as it’s barely taller than the stock coolers most CPU come from, perfect for those with limited space.

There are three thick heat-pipes here which come right through the fin array. The sides of the fins are also closed off, helping better direct airflow through the cooler.

The cooler utilizes a direct contact design, a simple, yet effective method.

The compact design should also mean that motherboard compatibility is extremely high, so I wouldn’t expect any compatibility issues with memory slots or VRM cooling.
