ID-Cooling Auraflow X 240 RGB CPU Cooler Review

Installation

In the past, I have generally always found ID-Cooling products fairly straightforward to install and the Auraflow X 240 is no exception. All of the parts are neatly presented in the packaging. You are also provided with all necessarily backing plates to ensure full compatibility for AMD and Intel CPU socket designs.

ID-Cooling certainly has one of my most favourite pump head bracket designed. In a nutshell, you simply place it over the contact place (from the underside) and twist until it locks into place. No need for tiny fiddle screws. A job that takes around 5 minutes on many cooler designs, literally takes about 5 seconds here!

Additionally, mounting the fans provided little difficulty except for the aforementioned rather unflexible nature of the tubing. Although you may prefer a different method, I found it easier to lay the radiator flat on the edge of my desk with the pipes and pump head dangling below. If you try and put these fans on while having the pump head anywhere near the radiator, you’re probably going to have some difficulties.

The installation of the RGB lighting adaptors is a little fiddly, but that is entirely expected these days from coolers with extensive RGB features. Particularly those that offer sync capability. As we noted earlier, the manual adaptor being powered by a Molex port is disappointing, but not entirely unexpected.

From out of the box to fitted on our test system, this cooler took me no longer than 10-15 minutes to install. Based on the average RGB 240mm set-up this is about what I’d expect (or hope) and as such, in terms of installation, I can find very little to complain about with the Auraflow X 240. It’s has a few tricky moments, but far, far, fewer than many other designs!
