Installation and Performance

Given that all the hard work has already been done as part of the block design, fitting the ID-Cooling ICEFAN 240 to your system is remarkably straight forward. Now, admittedly, and as we have noted throughout various portions of this review, we still firmly believe that the best implementation of this design is as a tidier replacement for the ‘stock’ 240mm AIO liquid cooler fans. That being said, however, we don’t see any reason why they couldn’t possibly be utilized as front intake or upper exhausts (depending on your chassis).

Is there is one gripe we can make about the design, however, then that would undoubtedly be the cable location. Awkwardly sprouting out of a flat panel, it would’ve been far better had the plastic been cut of recessed to allow these to feed away more cleanly. The resistance offered was so great, in fact, that I couldn’t lay this flat on that particularly side for a photograph.

Will this make a major difference? Probably not, but it’s such a minor point that could’ve easily have been improved!

Functionality

Another (likely more significant) grumble comes with the fact that this fan kit is not provided with a manual ARGB controller. In other words, if you don’t have a ARGB Sync compatible motherboard, you’re not going to be able to get these fans running out of the box. Well, not unless you happen to own something like a SATA adaptor.

This, for me, this is a huge turn off. I like RGB, I love ARGB, but I always think manufacturers should provide fans with the optional functionality of a manual connection controller. It’s such a cheap part, probably costing at most $5, but for those without sync compatible motherboards, it really is an absolute necessity and for one to not be provided here is simply disappointing!

While we can attempt to describe to you how the ID-Cooling ICEFAN 240 looks and operates, it is, generally speaking, always easier just to show you. While we think our pictures give a fair representation, however, having seen this spinning away on our test system, we couldn’t resist putting a video together showing you all of the functionality in action!
