ID@Xbox Has Generated an Impressive Amount of Money for Indie Developers, Microsoft Reveals
The ID@Xbox program, Microsoft’s platform for supporting indie games, continues to thrive. Recently, the company shared the incredible amount of money generated by this initiative, which has gone directly to indie developers.
Impressive Financial Success
According to Microsoft, ID@Xbox has generated a total of $5 billion over the 11 years since the program’s launch. With such remarkable success, there are expectations that the initiative will continue to grow even stronger in the future, especially considering the significant role indie game development plays in the current market.
This growth is especially impressive when you consider that in 2022 alone, royalties paid to indie developers by ID@Xbox amounted to $2.5 billion, meaning the revenue generated has effectively doubled in just three years.
A Steady Stream of New Titles
In the past year alone, over 1,000 indie games have been released, with many of them added directly to the Game Pass catalog. These indie titles continue to provide strong support for the service.
Just last month, the ID@Xbox Showcase event took place, revealing 21 new games on the way. Many of these titles, if not all, will be available on Game Pass, and several of them are especially exciting.
Among the indie games coming to Game Pass that are particularly noteworthy are Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Descenders Next, FBC: Firebreak, and the recently announced Towerborne. Additionally, Microsoft mentioned the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong, a game that was announced for Game Pass some time ago, though there is still no official word on its release date.
