iFixit does a teardown of the new 21.5″ iMac and they don’t seem to be too pleased with the way how Apple, Inc has done a great job of making it difficult to upgrade your ram and most replaceable components. It started with the glass and the LCD being fused with the system with a very strong glue and not magnets like how it did on the older version. Processor and ram is buried DEEP inside the system and you will end up dismantling most of the system. Since one of the version of iMac version have Fusiondrive option, most likely there will be some sort of a secondary connector for the story, unfortunately judging by the circuit board, the version which has the SSD will be directly soldiered to the logic board.
Its unlikely most will plan to go ahead with the first step which requires one to use a heatgun to remove the glass first. Sadly combining all this its concluded that one requires a lot of time, patience and skills to replace/upgrade the removable components. Source: iFixit p
