How Much Does it Cost?
The Iiyama G-MASTER GB2766HSU-B1 is available now and while some retailers have it slightly under £300, some retailers may charge for shipping also, but if you see some change from £300, you’re getting a decent deal. That’s a very competitive price too, given the level of features on offer, it’s a great entry point for budding competitive gamers needing a more advanced display.
Overview
Iiyama is really hitting the mark with their new gaming monitor. For me, the resolution is a little low, I like my 4K gaming and 4K provides me with the workspace I need for my editing work, albeit, I’m slowly shifting over to 21:9 ultrawide. It’s also smaller than I like, as I prefer 32″ 16:9 and 24″ 21:9 monitors. However, my tastes typically mean a comparable monitor to the Iiyama G-MASTER GB2766HSU-B1 would be costing between £500 and £700, if not more in some cases. Suddenly the 2560 x 1440 27″ monitor makes a lot more sense, £300 is a good chunk of change, but it’s not beyond the remit of many consumers.
eSports
While you can drop a fortune on a real top-tier eSports monitor, that’s a bit extreme for most of us. At 165 Hz with a 1ms response time and FreeSync premium, you’re getting a huge boost in performance here. Plus, compared to a 2K (2560 x 1440) monitor, you’re not going to need a particularly powerful GPU to hit those big refresh rates in most competitive shooters and other competitive games in general.
Clarity
The panel size is decent, 27″ is still one of the most popular monitor sizes and at this resolution, it has good pixel density. Albeit, while gaming, the higher fresh rate enhances clarity more than you would think. While running around in any shooter, this looks cleaner than a 1440 panel running at 60 Hz, so long as you can keep the game running at those higher refresh rates.
Should I Buy One?
The build quality is really nice overall, and I really can’t fault the design, ergonomics and features on offer from this monitor. Anything it lacks is reflected in the price, and at £300, you’re getting impressive colour reproduction and really solid gaming performance right out of the box. If you’re looking for a reasonably affordable entry point for a competitive gaming monitor for your PC or the latest consoles, look no further.
