Iiyama G-Master Red Eagle GB2766HSU Monitor Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Iiyama G-Master Red Eagle GB2766HSU Monitor is available now from Amazon with an MSRP of around £225, but at the time of writing it’s listed for just £211 and I have seen it a little lower than that still, so it’s worth shopping around. That’s a pretty solid investment, not crazy money, but you’re paying for a decent panel size, and given that it’s curved and has a 165 Hz refresh rate, it obviously comes at a premium over more standard Full HD monitors. However, a 1500R curved VA Panel, 1ms Response time, 165Hz, FreeSync Premium, Black Tuner, and a half decent Height adjustable stand make it worth the extra cash.

Overview

There’s really a lot to love about this monitor, as it promised to do a few things and frankly, excelled on all of them. I do find it incredibly strange that the box or the product page on their website doesn’t give any colour reproduction expectations for this panel. However, after throwing our calibration tool on it, the panel is surprisingly capable, and you would think Iiyama would be eager to tell their customers this information. That being said, if you’ve little to no idea what all that results mean, just know that the panel looks great. The colours are pretty accurate, they’re vibrant, and your movies, games, and photos are going to look superb.

The resolution is a bit of a handicap for me for work, as I’m used to a 4K panel, two of them actually. However, a lot of people are used to working on HD panels, so I doubt this is going to be much of an issue. Of course, if all you’re doing is working, this isn’t the best monitor for you. This monitor is meant for gaming, and you’re paying a premium for that higher refresh rate. Sure, you can increase resolution to improve in-game detail, but the amount of clarity you get from silky smooth frame rates is hard to beat and gives you more bang for your buck in gaming than a simple resolution boost can offer.

Overall, the build quality is decent, and the stand has a good range of ergonomic adjustments. There’s really good connectivity, and the added features like the competent UI, built-in speakers, and FreeSync support really make it an easy monitor to live with. For around £200, you’re getting some of the high-end thrills PC gaming has to offer, without breaking the bank.

If you’re looking for a fast refresh rate gaming experience this certainly ticks that box, however, the surprisingly excellent colour reproduction and easy to use UI make this a solid all-rounder for work, gaming and media consumption. If your budget is around £200, this is definitely worth your consideration.
