IKEA Launches Their Own Set of Affordable Smart Lighting Solutions in the UK

IKEA is introducing their own smart lighting solutions line that will make connected products more widely accessible than ever before. Most people might not have an Alexa-enabled device but using smart lighting solutions is a good start for automating the home as they install without much effort but the difference is quite noticeable. Since it is IKEA, the prices of these smart lighting solutions are also going to be much more affordable and easily adjustable via IKEA’s smartphone app.

IKEA is starting with the TRÅDFRI LED bulbs and remote control, a gateway kit, a motion sensor kit, dimming lights and a selection of LED light panels and doors that can easily be integrated into various rooms and cabinets. For now, the LED lights are only available with the ability to vary between shades of white so those looking for a multi-colored RGB solution would have to wait or look for solutions elsewhere for now. The Gateway kit will cost £69 in the UK and consists of two white LED bulbs, a remote control and a gateway which attaches to the home network. A £29 dimming kit can also be added, which allows users to adjust between various white spectrum dimming options for the bulbs. Another £15 warm white dimming kit can also be added as well which will dim the light between subtle and strong warm white lighting. The standalone TRÅDFRI wireless motion sensor kit costs £25 and can be set to automatically detect users as they enter the room, which then triggers the lights instantaneously and has the ability to turn off the light as soon as the user walks off the room after one, five or 10 minutes.

This is the first time these products will be available in IKEA UK, although the rest of Europe has had them since September 2016. The IKEA US website has also begun listing the TRÅDFRI smart lighting solutions although it is not available in Canada and some other markets yet.
