Image Confirms the Nvidia 4080 Has Moved to a (Sort Of) New Chipset Design

Without going over the same old rhetoric on the subject, since I daresay you’re all probably away of it, all indications suggest that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 is proving to be a pretty huge flop with consumers. It’s not that we don’t appreciate the performance, but more so that we certainly don’t appreciate its price tag.

In this regard, however, information appeared online late last week suggesting that Nvidia may have been looking for a solution to this. Namely, through the utilisation of a new, basically more efficient, chipset design. – While this was just a rumour at the time, however, following a report via Videocardz, a user has posted an image of the chipset confirming that the 4080 has indeed transitioned to a (sort of) new design! – And for us consumers, this could be important!

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 – New Chipset, Better Price?

I certainly don’t want to misrepresent the situation in that this is a nailed-down guarantee that the retail cost of Nvidia 4080 graphics cards might be set to drop. In truth, I doubt seeing this happen for quite a while even if this theory does pan out.

What is the theory though? Well, the new chipset design is understood to be significantly more efficient and, in very brief terms, less expensive to create (it’s also said to reduce the number of components needed in the GPU, but not by a massive amount). While it’s understood that Nvidia will only really be passing these saving onto AIB partners for their custom designs, the hope from consumers is that the trickle-down economics might, even this early in the 4080s release, see prices start to err more towards being below the official MSRP.

As I said above, this is certainly no guarantee. With it being understood that AIB partners are hugely dissatisfied with the underwhelming sales figures of the 4080, however, it does feel like something has got to give if this graphics card is going to have any chance of actually providing to be even a mild success with consumers.

What do you think though? – Let us know in the comments!
