Testing the performance of a USB hub is pretty straight forward. Connect a drive to it, benchmark it, and compare the results to a direct connection to the controller. This will give us a good view on the hub’s performance impact, if any, and if it’s something to worry about or not.
The Inateck HB4009 isn’t just a hub, it’s also a Keyboard and Mouse switch, can copy file files between two systems, and share the clipboard, it’s also cross-platform compatible between Mac OS X, Windows, and Android. I do not have any Mac OS X devices to test that part, but I will be connecting it between Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs as well as an Android 4.2.2 device with OTG support.
