Instagram Hotel Gives You A Free Night If You Have 10K Or More Followers

Over the internet it is easy to spot that sometimes people can take social media too far, yet I’ve never really seen that creep into business. That’s until I saw a hotel in Sydney called the 1888 Hotel or “Instagram Hotel” which is offering a free nights stay to anyone with 10,000 or more Instagram followers. PSFK reports that the hotel is designed for people to take “selfies” when they check in and has a digital mural of Instagram shots over its walls. The hotel has 90 rooms all of which are decorated by Instagram photos taken by guests.

The hotel has 90 rooms starting at $140 a night but offers free rooms to people with more than 10,000 Instagram followers or to people who win the monthly photo competition which is to take the best photo of the hotel in that particular month.

What do you think of integrating social media into the design of a hotel? Is it one step too far for social media or is it a good innovative idea?
