Instagram is Implementing Two-Factor Authentication

Instagram is definitely one of the most popular photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking services right now. However, it really isn’t the safest social network out there, mainly because it doesn’t offer two-factor authentication. Fortunately, things are about to change very soon as the company is finally getting around to implementing this crucial feature. Not too long ago, a user spotted a series of testing sessions for two-factor authentication on Instagram, and it wasn’t long before the official news came out. This new layer of security will be based on a phone number, naturally, which will be linked to the user’s account.
Each time someone will try to log on to your account using your username and password, you will receive a unique code on your phone that needs to be entered in order to grant access to the account. Google has been using this feature for years with great success, and even Instagram’s parent company, Facebook, has implemented it nearly five years ago. Considering the fact that someone gaining access to your account could actually delete all of your photos and spam your followers, it’s a wonder Instagram didn’t provide two-factor authentication sooner. Actually, accounts belonging to celebrities have lost thousands of followers at a time because of various security breaches, but it’s likely that attacks will come to a grinding halt now that the company is finally taking measures to improve its online security.
