Although we are still pending categorical confirmation, it seems pretty likely that Intel will formally, and finally, announce the launch of their new 12th-gen Alder Lake-S processors at some point in late October. We fully expect this new CPU range to be amazingly potent. However, following a report via Videocardz, sources are claiming that although Alder Lake-S will be launched this year, in terms of product ranges, we can likely expect this to be limited!
Although Alder Lake-S will go onto represent quite a diverse set of processors, it’s understood that the initial launch will not comprise the entire range. Put simply, if this source is proven to be correct, the initial debut of this new 12th-gen processing platform will be limited to the Alder Lake-S K, KF, and only Z690 motherboard designs. – So, it does beg the question as to where are the rest of these CPUs? Where are the H670, B660, and B610 motherboards? Well, apparently, Intel has chosen to initially go with its more premium products with the general range to be announced and completed at CES 2022.
The decision does perhaps make more sense than it might initially seem. Choosing to primarily launch what will effectively be their more potent flagship products, this decision to delay the other processors and, to a lesser extent, the lower-tier motherboards, might be Intel attempting to ensure here that when Alder Lake-S does arrive, the CPUs will be available in a reasonable quantity. They are, after all, already on record to say that the short-term supply prospects for their current-gen models are already pretty bleak.
Make no bones about it though, we fully expect Alder Lake-S to be an amazingly potent range of processors. It just seems that, again, if this leak is proven accurate, that it might take a little while before we get to experience the entire Alder Lake-S series and, by proxy, their motherboards.
