Intel Alder Lake-S To Coincide With ‘Windows 11’ Release?

Later this month, Microsoft is expected to announce something regarding a potentially significant update or a whole new version of its Windows operating system. Admittedly, at the time of writing, the information regarding this is rather tight and, depending on who you ask, you’ll likely get a different answer as to what we’re possibly going to get. – Following a report via TechPowerUp, however, a new source is claiming that a whole new Windows is indeed coming, but more so, it is being designed to work with a very specific key feature expected in Intel’s Alder Lake-S processor platform.

Windows 11 to Coincide with Intel Alder Lake-S?

While we clearly suggest that you take this with a grain of salt, the key implication in this news is that a new version of Windows (possibly Windows 11) is set to be revealed. What’s the connection between this and Intel’s Alder Lake-S though? Well, it goes beyond the mere possibility of them releasing at the same time.

It is being suggested that this new operating system is being very specifically designed to take advantage of the ‘Big.Little’ core structure seen in Intel’s upcoming CPU platform. – For those of you unfamiliar with what this is, it’s essentially a separation of large and small cores so that workloads can be prioritised and optimised depending on the overall grunt required.

What Do We Think?

Although I’d never considered this before, it does seem to make sense that for a processor with ‘Big.Little’ architecture to work correctly, there would need to be some level of compatibility within the operating system. Now, whether this will be Windows 11 or just a separately enhanced Windows 10 update remains to be seen. With Microsoft set to announce ‘something’ on June 24th, however, rest assured we’ll be keeping a very close eye on this one.
