It has been revealed that Intel’s Arc GPUs have gained the company a 4% desktop GPU market share, a small number but impressive for their first generation.
Intel’s first generation Arc Alchemist graphics cards have gained themselves a 4% desktop GPU market share according to Jon Peddie Research (Via TomsHardware) which reported on the current market for GPUs. The report shares how GPU shipments overall have decreased by 12.6% since the last quarter which reflects upon the current world climate after Covid with people buying less and saving more. It’s also likely that GPUs being priced out of most people’s budgets definitely has impacted sales as well.
Specifically looking at the market shares of the three GPU manufacturers NVIDIA continues its domination of the market with an 84% share selling around 5.29 million discrete GPUs with AMD lagging far behind with a 12% market share. Moving onto the main topic here, Intel sold around 250,000 graphics cards, a measly number compared to NVIDIA but it has granted them a 4% market share from their first generation of graphics cards. It’s an impressive feat and shows a promising future for a more competitive GPU market. Hopefully, we will also see an Intel GPU make it into the Steam hardware survey which will be a great sign. Considering the top GPUs on the list are all budget GPUs and with the Arc A750 being a very good value budget card there’s not much in the way for it taking a spot on the list, but at the same time, the GTX 1650 being at the top is likely mostly down to Pre-built sales as it’s a popular budget card for cheap pre-builts.
I see a bright future ahead for Intel Arc and can’t wait to see what Battlemage will offer us.
