Intel Core i7 4770K “Haswell” Processor Review

3DMark 11

3DMark 11 is the latest offering from Futuremark, taking full advantage of DirectX 11 by utilising tessellation features and volumetric lighting. It takes your graphics and CPU hardware to the edge to simulate the most extreme conditions whilst working as a stand point to compare results with other users online.

At stock our Intel Core i7 4770K shows quite a noticeable boost in 3DMark11 Performance of around 10%, under extreme the increase over the Core i7 3770K is much less pronounced at around 5%. Overclocking sees an additional nice boost in performance, but the Intel Core i7 4770K was never bottlenecking our reference speed HD 7970 anyway so there isn’t much extra performance.

PCMark 7

PCMark 7 provides a set of 7 suites for measuring different aspects of PC performance with a high degree of accuracy. Overall system performance is measured by the PCMark Suite. The Lightweight Suite measures the capabilities of entry level systems and mobility platforms unable to run the full PCMark suite. Common use performance is measured by the Entertainment, Creativity and Productivity scenario suites. Component performance is measured by the Computation and Storage hardware suites. The Storage suite is ideal for testing SSDs and external hard drives in addition to the system drive.

  1. My sample is a terrible overclocker. This is my opinion and my opinion only, If you’re a primarily a gamer you no doubt have a discreet graphics card and are already rocking a 2600K or 3770K there is absolutely nothing to be gained by upgrading to this chip.

  2. have you seen the power consumption of the 5GHz AMD 8150 vs the 4.9GHz 4770k after/before looking at their performance results?

you will end up spending more money in 1 month of use going AMD than going with Intel and every month after spend way more than you would going with an Intel Haswell set

electric bill is really overlooked and AMD is hoping to score with the numbers in call sign form instead of result form to stupid people

Consoles should use Intel not AMD for their design but if the coding is like ARM and Intel is slower than AMD in a non MS OS CGI platform then AMD is the best option.
