Processors
Intel Core i7-6700K & i5-6600K “Skylake” Processors Review
Core i7-6700K Power Consumption and Temperatures
Power Consumption
To measure power consumption, we use a killawatt meter and measure the total system power draw at the wall. We run three different scenarios for 5 minutes and take the average reading, these are Windows desktop idle, AIDA64’s system stability test and Prime95’s blend test.
Temperatures
To measure temperatures we run three different scenarios for 5 minutes: Windows desktop idle, AIDA64 Engineer system stability test and Prime95 Blend system load. We take the average maximum core temperature for AIDA64 and Prime95 and take the average minimum core temperature for desktop idle.
The new i7-6700K does run slightly cooler than the i7-4770K, maybe Intel has finally hit the TIM nail on the head and got it right.
the 6700 and 6600 aren’t on the bioshock chart.
the memory controller has been moved off the skylake cpu’s, so in return you have a much cooler cpu with slightly faster performance than haswell,i was surprised that 1.4v was safe for daily use.i am using the 6600k only because the 6700k i can’t get my hands on yet.
I find that for new gaming builds, Haswell is still the way to go to save money. However, we still haven’t seen the locked processors, so who knows how that will pan out?
