Intel customers in Hong Kong are facing a significant challenge as the Core i9-14900K CPUs have run out of stock for replacements. Synnex, a major distributor, has confirmed it cannot repair or replace the faulty CPUs and is instead offering refunds of HK$4,200 (approximately USD $538). The instability issue, affecting Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen processors, has caused numerous high-end chips to fail, and the shortages continue to worsen.
In a statement released by Synnex (thanks WCCftech), the company notified affected customers, stating:
Since your item cannot be repaired, we are arranging a refund of HK$4,200. If the customer agrees to the refund, please provide the relevant bank account details.
This refund is slightly lower than the official retail price of the Intel Core i9-14900K but is seen as a final resolution for users who can no longer repair their processors. This issue has frustrated many Intel users, some of whom have reported a 50% failure rate due to a “Vmin Stability” problem linked to overvoltage. One affected customer has decided to switch to AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X instead of waiting for the next-generation Intel processors.
Intel is expected to launch its new Arrow Lake S processors on October 24, 2024. The company has stated that the new architecture will not face the same instability issues plaguing current models.
