Intel Core Ultra 5 235 Matches Core i5-14500 in Early Benchmarks

Intel‘s Core Ultra 5 235, a new addition to the Arrow Lake lineup, is creating buzz after appearing in early Geekbench 6 benchmarks. The chip, which boasts 14 cores and a 5 GHz boost clock, shows performance levels comparable to Intel’s existing Core i5-14500 and Core i5-14600 CPUs. These results give us a glimpse of what Intel’s upcoming desktop CPUs might offer.

Early Benchmark Results Show Minimal Gains

According to the Geekbench results (thanks tomshardware), the Intel Core Ultra 5 235 scored 2,634 points in single-core and 13,293 points in multi-core performance. Comparatively, the Core i5-14500 scored 2,545 in single-core and 13,288 in multi-core, making the Ultra 5 235 only marginally faster by 3% in single-core performance.

Interestingly, the Core i5-14600, clocked at 5.2 GHz, managed to edge out the Core Ultra 5 235 in multi-core performance by 4%, showing that the new chip’s real strength lies in its new architecture rather than raw performance gains.

Intel’s Core Ultra 5 235 has a 6 P-core and 8 E-core configuration, a similar layout to the Raptor Lake generation. However, the Arrow Lake architecture brings Intel’s latest Lion Cove P-cores, which are expected to deliver higher IPC (instructions per clock) improvements.

That said, Intel fans should remember that these benchmarks may not represent final real-world performance, especially since power levels and cooling conditions can significantly affect the results.
