Intel Expects to Continue to Lose CPU Market Share to AMD Until 2025!

Back in early 2017, AMD was practically on its knees in the desktop CPU stakes. With a market share reportedly of only around 10-15% at the time (depending on the source) it really goes to highlight just how huge the Ryzen platform (launched later that year) has been for Team Red. – Put simply, with figures today showing them at circa 35%, AMD has definitely reestablished itself as thoroughly being back in the game.

Of course though, as AMD grows, Intel must, by proxy, shrink. – With the upcoming release of their 13th-gen Raptor Lake processors, however, you might have expected Intel to be somewhat optimistic about their future. Following a report via TechPowerUp, however, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has somewhat shockingly admittedly that he expects AMD to continue to gain more and more consumers (and increase their market share) until at least 2025!

Intel Say They Expect to Continue to Lose CPU Market Share to AMD

Now, in this regard, Intel isn’t purely talking about desktop gaming PC processors. In that regard, while AMD might grab an additional slice of the pie in the coming years, Intel will still undoubtedly manage to somewhat hold their own to stop the scales completely tipping in Team Red’s favour. When it comes to more enterprise designs, however, it seems pretty clear that Intel is very worried about the impact new AMD EPYC releases will have. – Any way you choose to cut it though, the comments are surprisingly frank!

“Competition just has too much momentum, and we haven’t executed well enough. So we expect that bottoming. The business will be growing, but we do expect that there continues to be some share losses. We’re not keeping up with the overall TAM growth until we get later into ’25 and ’26 when we start regaining share, material share gains.” – Pat Gelsinger

What do you think though? Do you think AMD really is capable of grabbing more and more market share until 2025? And if so, what does Intel have on the way then that’s going to turn things back in their favour? – Let us know in the comments!
