Intel has officially completed the hardware design for its upcoming Xe3 GPUs, and is now directing its attention toward the next-generation Xe4 cores, set to power the Intel Arc D series, codenamed “Druid.”
The first desktop graphics cards based on Intel’s Xe2 core architecture, the Intel Arc B580 and B570, have just launched, following a quick entry into the integrated graphics market. However, the development of the next generation, the Intel Xe3 GPUs, part of the Intel Arc C series, codenamed “Celestial,” appears to be already complete—at least on the hardware side.
Intel’s hardware development team is now moving forward with the Xe4 cores, which are expected to drive the Intel Arc D series. While the Xe3 architecture is finished, significant work remains, particularly in the software domain. As confirmed by Intel’s Tom Petersen, the next step is for the software team to optimize the new Xe3 architecture to ensure peak performance. This means it will still take some time before we see the new generation in action.
Despite the recent launch of the Intel Arc B series graphics cards, more models of the Battlemage architecture (Intel Arc B series) are still expected. Interestingly, Intel has already committed to launching at least two additional generations of GPUs, regardless of the reception of the current generation. This suggests that the company remains focused on long-term innovation, with plans to continue evolving its GPU lineup.
