We know already that providing there are no delays or unforeseen circumstances we should be seeing Intel’s Haswell LGA 1150 platform in Q2 of 2013. The Ivy Bridge successor platform could arrive any time between March and June.
Cometh a new platform, cometh a new chipset. The Z87 chipset is the obvious name here, as the performance chipsets have been going up in increments of 10 since P67, Z77 and now Z87.
Although the Intel Developers Forum event is just 2 weeks away, where Intel is expected to announce many more details about Z87, information from other sources has emerged already.
Z87 will come with integrated voltage regulators, USB 3.0, SATA III and PCIe 3.0 support. All Z87 motherboards will have triple display capabilities through HDMI, DVI, DP, eDP and VGA connectors thanks to the vastly improved Haswell integrated graphics.
Another nice addition is TRIM support in RAID 0 storage configurations along with Rapid Storage Technology 12 and RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 capabilities.
