Intel having problems with USB 3.0 in Haswell?

According to a new report it seems that Intel is having issues with USB 3.0 on their 4th generation Core Series “Haswell” Processors. According to reliable sources, the chip making giant is apparently facing issues with the Haswell platform and needs to solve the issues with USB 3.0 before Intel could ship these processors to its end users.

The USB specific issue arises when a system powered by a Haswell processors comes on from its S3 sleep mode, the issue arises via one of the devices plugged in the USB 3.0 ports. The issue that did come up ranged from blank PDF pages being displayed in Acrobat readers, video stopping rather than resuming and many more to continue. The only way to fix this issue for now is to restart the application that’s facing the issue without rebooting the system. However, it has been stated that this issue is more of a nuisance and will not result in data loss on any related USB devices. In the document, Intel states that this will not impact the release of Haswell-based processors, but will most likely be resolved only when it releases Haswell’s newer stepping. The documents concludes, stating that the manufacturers must acknowledge the issue before Intel will supply these Haswell processors to them.

A company spokesman said,”I can tell you that Intel remains on track for the first 4th generation Intel Core processors to come to market starting in mid-2013.” but wouldn’t comment further on the situation.

The 4th generation Intel Core series ‘Haswell’ processors is a part of the company’s “tick tock” design where they launch a new processor design every year and then shrink the process size the next year. Haswell basically offers certain tweaks made to the IvyBridge architecture which is a process-shrunk version of the Sandy Bridge architecture. Keeping that aside, Intel’s Haswell processors will include HNI instructions, L4 cache layer, certain models with 10w TDP and more. The Lynx point chipset for Haswell series processors come with native USB 3.0 support for up to 6 ports.
