Following the official announcement of their new upcoming ‘KS’ series of Alder Lake processors at CES 2022, Intel has yet to really reveal much more about them since. With the i9-12900KS looking likely to release at some point next month, however, all indications are suggesting that we should (at least in theory) have a brand new flagship product. Especially since some of the key features of it include it having a notably higher clock speed when compared to the Intel i9-12900K (200MHz base/300MHz boost) as well as it being pre-binned with a boost clock speed of 5.5GHz. (Pre-binned meaning that this speed is guaranteed across all performance cores).
Just how good is it really going to be though? Well, following a report via Videocardz, we may have our best answer to that question yet!
As part of the confirmed results, we see scores in both single and multi-core performance that provide a pretty notably gap seen from those already well known and established on the i9-12900K. Now, admittedly, Geekbench isn’t the most reliable benchmarking tool when it comes to ‘real world’ performance, and, more so, it’s certainly not overly indicative of any gains likely to be expected in gaming. – Presuming the results are fairly accurate, however, when compared the to i9-12900K, it would be appear that the i9-12900KS outperformed it by the following margins:
Again, if these results are accurate, it would clearly indicate that the Intel i9-12900KS is set to be the brand new performance King (or Queen if you prefer) of the single-core stakes. A factor that would clearly indicate that the gaming performance of this CPU is going to be very impressive indeed. – In terms of multi-core, while it is, as you would entirely expect, topped out by workstation processors, the score would still seem to suggest that this will be the most potent ‘desktop’ workhorse CPU as well.
All in all, the Intel i9-12900KS is looking to be an excellent processor. The only major downside is the fact that it’s already looking likely to cost something in the region of $800-$850.
