Intel introduces 6-Watt Server Processor

Intel introduces the new Centerton Server processor, formally known as the Atom S1200. It is Intel’s big step lately as this is the lowest power consuming processor to support 64-bit technology.

As mentioned by ForwardThinking, this is more suited for cloud computing environments and even possibly web hosting. This seems to be the answer towards ARM-based processors in the market.

There are 3 versions of this processor with the speed ranging from 1.6 GHz to 2 GHz and a TDP from 6.1w to 8.5w. The processor has 2 cores and 4 threads, with 64-Bit support, ECC Memory support, Virtualization, PCI Express 2.0 functionality and up to 8GB memory support.

As of now, Dell, HP and SuperMicro are said to sell these for the price of $54 with a minimum quantity of 1,000 units.
