Intel Kaby Lake i7-7700K First Benchmarks Leak

The Intel Core i7-7700K is set to replace the company’s current Skylake flagship and provide a decent performance boost. Of course, the specific details remain a closed secret and won’t officially be revealed until the embargo has lifted. Despite this, new information has been published about the Intel Core i7-7700K’s performance and overclocking headroom which make for interesting reading. According to the leak, the chip was tested on an MSI Z170A Gaming Pro motherboard alongside 16GB of GALAX HOF DDR4 memory running at 4133MHz. At stock settings, the Core i7-7700K reported a 913 score in Cinebench R15 while the Core i7-6700K achieved 886 points. On another note, the Core i7-7700K’s Fritz Chess benchmark resulted in 17049 points compared to the Core i7-6700K’s 16050 score. In 3D Mark 11’s Extreme test, the Kaby Lake processor obtained a 10838 physics score which outperforms the Core i7-6700K’s 10124 points.

The benchmarks also outline the memory performance using the default 2133MHz frequency. In AIDA64, the CPU reported a 30199MB/s read, 31137MB/s write and 27000MB/s copy. Once overclocked to 5.0GHz, the Cinebench score improved to 1089 and the Fritz Chess result was 19891 points. Furthermore, the 3DMark 11 Extreme Physics Score rose from 10838 to 13542.

Apparently, the Core i7-7700K  can reach 4.9GHz with a modest 1.29V reading. On the other hand, this hefty overclock resulted in high thermal loads extremely close to the chip’s 100C limit. Therefore, it’s becoming clear that the extra voltage causes a huge spike in temperatures.
