Intel Launches Atom C3000 Series System-on-Chip Processors

Intel is due to announce their latest Coffee Lake desktop processors on Monday, August 21, but they are also announcing their new C3000 processors over the weekend. The Atom C3000 processors represent Intel’s 3rd generation Atom System-on-Chip based CPU, manufactured on Intel’s 14nm process technology. They are ideal solutions for a variety of light workloads requiring very low power.

Intel Design Flexibility

The new Atom C3000 is available in dual-core up to 16-core configurations. It’s cache size varies per core configuration, with an L2 of 2MB/core for anything with less than 8 cores. The ones with 8 cores and above have an L2 that is 2MB/Core Pair. Each support dual channel DDR4 ECC up to 256GB, and have a wide range of TDP flexibility from 8.5 watts to 32 watts.

The System-on-Chip also has an integrated platform control hub, integrated IO, and up to four integrated Gigabit Ethernet adapters. It is also capable of running the same software and instructions as Intel Xeon processors so it is consistent. It includes advance server-class capabilities as well including:

  • Integrated Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT) offering up to 20 Gbps cryptography and up to 20 Gbps of compression, to free up valuable cycles on processors to perform value-added, differentiating functionality
  • Integrated Intel® Ethernet supporting up to four 10 GbE adapters delivering value-added data transmission throughput and network performance
  • Built-in hardware virtualization with Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) to enable dynamic provisioning of services as communication service providers extend network functions virtualization (NFV) to the network edge
  • Up to 20 lanes of flexible high-speed input/output (HSIO), supporting a combination of PCIe* gen 3, SATA3, USB 3.0, and fixed eMMC
  • Intel x86 64-bit Software Support for scalable performance and broad application/workload compatibility
  • Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) features, including support for error-correcting code (ECC) memory and platform-level error management and resilience
  • Support for industrial Internet of Things (IoT) usages and Extended Ambient Operation Temperature (eTEMP*) from -40⁰C to +85⁰C
