Intel is rolling out their latest series of Next Unit of Computing (NUC) mini-PCs. These ones carry the codename “Dawson Canyon”, packing Kaby Lake CPUs and is available in kit or board-only format.
Users can also choose between either a Core i3-7100U or Core i5-7300U processor model. The -‘U’ suffix being the designation for their ultra low-power CPUs. Both processors are dual-core with four threads and 3MB of smart cache. However, they differ in clock speeds with the i3 running at 2.4GHz and the i5 at 2.6GHz (3.5GHz Turbo).
Both have integrated Intel HD 620 graphics operating at 300MHz to 1,100MHz, supporting simultaneous 4K 4096 x 2304 displays.
All models share the same 4-inch x 4-inch NUC board design. It has two SO-DIMM module slots supporting up to 32GB of DDR4-2133.
There are also two M.2 sockets, one for M.2 2280 storage drive, while the M.2 2230 is for a bluetooth or WLAN module. A SATA port is also available for connecting an extra drive. Externally, there are two USB 3.0 Type-A ports at the front and two more at the back. Two HDMI ports are available for external display output and there is a Gigabit Ethernet port for wired Ethernet.
