Intel Launches ‘Gemini Lake’ Pentium Silver and Celeron CPUs

Intel is announcing new processors for the Pentium Silver and Celeron lineup using the Gemini Lake architecture. Gemini Lake succeeds Apollo Lake and brings desktop as well as mobile solutions. These low power CPUs provide a great balance of performance and connectivity for daily PC tasks. Moreover, it presents even significantly better efficiency than Apollo Lake. In terms of performance, Intel claims the new Pentium Silver is even 58-percent faster than Intel Bay Trail Pentiums from 2014.

Intel Gemini Lake Processor Lineup

Two processors for the Pentium Silver line and two processors for the Celeron line are launching initially. One is for mobile, while the other is for desktop. The lineup includes:

  • Intel Pentium Silver processors N5000 for mobile and J5005 for desktop
  • Intel Celeron processors N4100 and N4000 for mobile and J4105 and J4005 for desktop

These Pentium Silver and Celeron-based systems are also optimized for the latest in enhanced media streaming content. In addition to MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC, VC-1, WMV9, HEVC, and VP9 support from Apollo Lake, VP9 10-bit support is now available. Moreover, Intel is introducing a new technology for people that aren’t watching content in perfectly lit rooms. Such is the case when viewing media on a mobile device. The feature, called Local Adaptive Contrast Enhancement (LACE), helps people clearly see the screen outdoors in glare and bright light.

Expect these new processors on laptops, 2-in-1s, all-in-one PCs, mini PCs and even desktops. In fact, there are products in the market already spotted sporting these processors as early as October.
