Intel has today launched its new 14900KS Special Edition processor for enthusiasts which is capable of speeds up to 6.2 GHz, it’s effectively the best binned i9-14900K silicon for those that really need the top performance.
Intel Core i9-14900KS
The Core i9-14900KS has launched today marking the company’s flagship product of the Raptor Lake Refresh line and likely the last product which will see the i9 naming as we move onto Intel’s new naming scheme for the next generation. It features 24 cores (8P, 16E) and a 3.20 Base frequency on the P cores capable of boosting up to 6.2 GHz which is 0.2GHz higher than the 14900K. This high clock speed also draws a fair bit of power as it comes with a base power of 150W but can reach a maximum of 253W and then can even reach 320W under an Extreme Power Delivery Profile on select premium motherboards. The chip comes with 36MB of Intel Smart Cache as well as 32MB of L2 cache
Pricing
As for pricing, this chip will be available for $689 which is $100 more than the 14900K though this chip is designed for enthusiasts with deep wallets and an actual need for a high binned chipped. This of course means the average person won’t be going out of their way for this “Special Edition” chip.
