Intel Officially Announces ‘i’ Branding Update For Meteor Lake CPUs

Intel has officially announced the update to its CPU branding starting with the next generation Meteor Lake processors under the Core Ultra and Core branding and completely dropping the well-known ‘i’ Branding.

Intel Branding Update

We’ve known for a while now through rumours that Intel were to be dropping the ‘i’ branding from their processor range so this news does not come as a surprise. In a press release intel has confirmed that they are introducing the Intel Core Ultra processor brand for the most advanced client processors and simplifying the Intel Core processor brand for mainstream client offerings. Intel will also be evolving the Intel Evo platform as well as introducing vPro enterprise and vPro essentials device labels for commercial systems.

For the next generation Meteor Lake processors we will see them under the name of Intel Core Ultra 3/5/7/9 as opposed to i3/i5/i7/i9 that we have known for many years now. Intel claims that these changes are to make it easier for customers to identify the right client solutions in Intel’s ecosystem for their needs but I personally don’t quite see what this will change and if anything it seems more confusing. I assume Intel know what they’re doing so I guess we will wait and see when Meteor Lake launches if this change is for the better or just as confusing. I’d hazard a guess that it will be something that has a better effect in the long run once more Core Ultra CPUs are released.
