While Ivy Bridge has been pushed back and won’t see the light most probably until April next year, Intel partners are already playing around with some Ivy Bridge boards.
Some of you may wonder why the need to make new boards with the Ivy Bridge being already compatible with the 60-series chipset motherboards. The simple answer is that you’ll get more out of the system with the matching board for Ivy Bridge featuring a 70-series chipset.
Partner are already working with samples of both Ivy Bridge and their respective boards and claim that in some cases it proves to be much faster than the Sandy Bridge at the same clock. The most impressive performance increase seems to be the graphics, in which Intel is certainly getting better and better.
The Ivy Bridge CPU and the matching boards are expected to make their appearance around March/April, with which we should see improved performance, better battery and overall better platform for both the notebook and the desktop market.
