It does feel somewhat premature to already be talking about Intel’s 13th-gen Raptor Lake-S processors. There are, after still, still many models from their Alder Lake-S series still to hit the market and, hopefully, impress us. Following a report via Videocardz, however, a leaked benchmark has appeared online seemingly showing a Raptor Lake-S CPU sample out in the wild. And more so, it seems to confirm that their next-gen models will feature a pretty hefty increase on its core/thread count.
The entry was noted on the ‘BAPCO’s Crossmark benchmark database’. As you might expect though, it has since been removed due to the highly confidential nature of the information and the processor itself. – With partially confirmed specifications, however, we can see that this particular sample will feature 24 cores and 32 threads. Alas, the only thing we don’t know is exactly which model this is.
Based on the almost certain continuation of the ‘big.LITTLE’ core architecture, however, this would seem to suggest that we can expect 8 ‘big’ performance cores and 16 ‘LITTLE’ cores which would certainly be a pretty hefty step up from the 16 cores total seen on the current i9-12900K flagship. And remember, this is presuming that the sample here is the top-tier model. If not, even bigger and better things could be coming from Raptor Lake-S.
The only downside to this information is that given that this is undoubtedly an engineering sample, the performance figures it has provided in the testing are fairly underwhelming. Remember though, such processors are often nowhere near indicative of the final version that will hit retail shelves. So, in other words, ignore the results and simply concentrate on the fact that Raptor Lake-S is already looking to be, potentially, an exceptionally good follow-up to Alder Lake-S.
