Intel Raptor Lake-S May (Sort Of) Feature a Top Spec 24-Core Model

With Intel not having yet released their 12th-gen Alder Lake-S processors, it admittedly feels somewhat premature to already be speculating about what their 13th-gen Raptor Lake-S designs might be bringing to the table. – While it’s understood that Alder Lake-S will see the introduction of ‘big.LITTLE’ core designs, however, following a report via TechPowerUp, information has leaked online strong suggesting that, for the first time ever in desktop consumer CPU designs (excluding HEDT/workstation releases), Intel’s Raptor Lake-S platform may feature a huge 24-core top-spec model!

Intel Raptor Lake-S 24-Core CPU

Now, while this might sound pretty impressive, and especially so in desktop CPU terms where 16-core currently appears to be the ‘gold standard’, this news doesn’t come without a catch. As part of the leak, it is suggested that while this Raptor Lake-S CPU will technically be a 24-core processor, it will strongly be based upon the ‘big.LITTLE’ architecture. In other words, it will come with 8 ‘big’ cores and 16 ‘little’ cores.

Don’t let this put you off though as early indications are already suggesting that this design, set to be initially revitalised with the Alder Lake-S platform, could provide consumers with huge performance boosts and particularly so in conjunction with Windows 11 which is understood to be optimising itself to the ‘big.LITTLE’ CPU platform.

When Will We Know More?

As noted above, with Alder Lake-S expected to launch around October this year, Raptor Lake-S is still, relatively speaking, quite a long way off hitting retail shelves. In fact, it’s not expected to make its debut until late next year and possibly Q1 2023, depending on how the current chipset shortage situation progresses. – It seems though that Alder Lake-S is definitely getting some solid groundwork in place for the best implementation of ‘big.LITTLE’ but perhaps Raptor Lake-S is going to be the first to really kick this design into a whole new gear!
