Intel Rocket Lake-S Release Date Revealed?!
Mike Sanders / 4 years ago
Following the Rocket Lake-S CPU platform’s official announcement at CES 2021, while Intel confirmed that it would see a Q1 release, to date, we have seen very little indication of a formal or a rough date as to when that would happen. In fact, all we’ve heard so far from the rumour mill is that it would likely be released before the end of March. Following a report via Videocardz, new sources are claiming that a date has officially been set.
Intel Rocket Lake-S CPUs
Coming from Chinese sources, it is said that the Rocket Lake-S CPUs will officially be released on March 15th. So, in less than a month’s time, and following a lot of (apparent) benchmark leaks in recent weeks, we might (finally) be able to find out just how good they really area. – In terms of their design, it is understood that, generally speaking, Rocket Lake-S will come with fewer cores than their comparative prior Comet Lake-S 10th-gen models. However, a greater emphasis has been placed on performance within the architecture and particularly so on the single-core speed. As such, despite appearing weaker to the casual observer in terms of their specifications, they will still have the potential to offer (at least according to Intel) around a 20-30% comparative performance gain.
What Do We Think?
I have to admit that my impression of the news and leaks surrounding Rocket Lake-S wasn’t good before the start of this year. In fact, in terms of offering real competition to AMD Ryzen 5000, it didn’t seem that Intel would have much of a response here. However, that has changed significantly since the start of the year following a significant number of fresh reports and developments. Quite frankly, despite my initial hesitations, I’m actually getting a lot more confident in Rocket Lake-S actually being a pretty bloody good platform!
Will that be the case though? Well, rest assured, as soon as samples arrive at the eTeknix office, we’ll be strapping them down onto our test benches to find out! So, if you too are keen to see what Rocket Lake-S will have to offer, be sure to check out our website and media portals for all the reviews and benchmarks as soon as the NDA breaks!
