There are currently two pretty significant questions surrounding Intel’s Arc desktop graphics cards. When will they be released? And how good (or bad) are they going to be? – In regards to the former, we should start by noting that Intel is still yet to give any kind of firm indication as to when their Arc graphics cards will be set for a general consumer release. I mean, based on the huge PR campaign they’re on a the moment, it definitely feels like we’re getting close. For the time being, however, PR is all we have.
What about the latter though? Well, over the last couple of weeks we’ve seen more than a few indications appear to suggest that while their higher tier Arc A750 and A770 models are certainly not going to be world beaters, they’re not going to be slouches either. – And following a new video released by Intel, the Arc A750 is actually looking more than a little impressive with it being showcased running Death Stranding quite comfortably!
Running Death Stranding in 1440p resolution, the somewhat brief video showcases the Arc A750 managing to produce a more than a respectable average of 80-100 frames per second (on the game’s preset graphics settings). Now, admittedly, paired with an Intel i9-12900K, this is certainly getting a pretty solid helping hand from one of the most potent CPUs currently available. Not to mention 32GB of pretty fast (4,800MHz) DDR5 memory.
Overall though, Death Stranding, and particularly so at this resolution, is quite a demanding title and, as such, seeing 80-100 FPS as an average is more than a little encouraging. Particularly so since this is not their top-spec GPU.
It should be noted that the video showcase was not, strictly speaking, an overall benchmark demonstration of the gaming performance of the Arc A750. It was more a demonstration of its Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) compatibility and performance with monitors. And in this regard, Intel says that official certification for many models, under their graphics platform, is underway.
Overall though, given that both the A750 and A770 are expected to cost under $400, this is certainly an encouraging sign that Intel might have some great options here for consumers looking for a ‘decent’ graphics solution on a budget. – Yes, in a weird kind of way, Intel’s Arc series might represent the best bang for buck around, and this may even include AMD and Nvidia’s upcoming next-gen GPUs.
