Intel Skylake-X i9-7900X At 5.9 GHz Smashes Cinebench Record

During Computex, Intel released their new Core-X HEDT processors. As with most launches, overclockers have already started work on the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X CPUs. Just as expected for extreme overclockers, LN2 scores are already coming out. The most interesting scores are for the new 10 core Core i9-7900X. Within days of launch, overclockers have broken the barrier for 10 core Cinebench scores.

Due to the use of LN2, don’t expect anything close to these scores at home. However, famed overclocker der8auer has taken the i9-7900X to 5929 MHz. At this monstrous speed, the chip scores 3262 in Cinebench R15. This result comes after elmor was the first to breach the old pre-Core-X record. Elmor managed to push the chip to 5755 MHz and score 3181 points. The old record was set by Xtreme Addict using the Broadwell-E i7 6950X. He managed to score 2878 points at 5330 Mhz.

Becuase of the improved architecture, it was inevitable that Skylake-X would perform better than Broadwell-E. Furthermore, it looks like the improved 14nm process has allowed the newer chips to clock even higher than before. As a result, Skylake-X may well claim many more overclocking titles, at least until AMD responds with Threadripper. With more time, knowledge and experience, we can expect many higher scores to come out over the next couple of weeks and months.
