Intel Super Resolution Revealed Competing With NVIDIA VSR

With the latest NVIDIA driver update, they released their Video Super Resolution technology designed to upscale video quality using the GPU and now Intel’s equivalent of this technology has been unofficially revealed.

Intel Video Super Resolution

This new tech whilst not yet officially supported is available for Chromium browsers using a simple tweak in the shortcut settings for the Google Chrome browser. Reportedly this technology is enabled for Intel 10th Generation and newer iGPUs as well as intel’s dedicated ARC GPUs. Enabling this technology simply requires going into the properties for the Google Chrome shortcut and then adding a small command to the end of the “target” box and ensuring hardware acceleration is enabled.

How Well Does it Work

This was initially leaked on Japanese blogger HDDVDDEGOGO on Livedoor who provided some images showing how well Intel VSR works. In the images provided, we can see that Intel VSR does a fairly good job with video upscaling .

Of course, results for VSR will vary depending on the GPU used as well as the fact that it has not yet officially been revealed or even mentioned by Intel. I haven’t personally tested Nvidia’s VSR but from what I’ve heard from others in the eTeknix community, it doesn’t seem be worth the additional power draw for a debatably higher-quality video.

What do you think of VSR technology? Let us know in the comments.
