A wall street analyst has claimed the Intel Corporation will buy the DRAM and memory specialist company Micron Technology in an attempt to diversify its product offerings and bring in-house memory knowledge on DRAM , NAND and Flash memory chips. Intel will be able to cut costs on memory products and offer platforms with Intel branded memory and NAND flash memory chips. In addition to this it is expected Intel can use Micron’s infrastructure to help develop memory products for Intel based tablets and smart phones to use and since they would be producing it internally costs can be reduced making Intel much more competitive.
Micron technology is one of the biggest NAND, Flash and DRAM producers in the world so even though the high cost of acquisition may set back Intel a significant amount of financial capital in the longer term this deal will be beneficial to Intel so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
