Looks like 2013 will be one of Intel’s best years yet. Few hardware enthusiasts and fans call 2013 as “The year of the Haswell”, after the 4th generation core series processors for desktops and notebooks. They’re also introducing newer chips for IVB-E and Sandy Bridge- E platforms in Q2 2013. Then we have the newer thunderbolt controllers from Intel that will be featured in notebooks.
That’s not the only component that will be present in Intel powered notebooks in 2013. A card codenamed “Wilkins Peak 2”, a 2×2 wireless card with Dual Band 2.4 and 5 GHz, Multi Stream, Intel VPro and Bluetooth 4 support is set to start coming into the markets. It will come as a PCIe card or as a USB mini card and is capable of supporting upto 867Mbps in 2×2 AC mode.
Wilkins Peak 1 has a support of up to 433Mbps and with 1×1 AC support with one antenna. There were 3 more cards codenamed “Wilksons Peak 2” which has B/G/N wireless support and with/without Bluetooth.
Wilkins Peak 2 will be compatible with Shark bay 1 or 2 chip platforms and will debut during Q3 2013, alongwith the newer Thunderbolt controllers.
