Intel to launch new-generation server platforms

Beginning March 2012, Intel will launch new-generation platforms for use in servers. On schedule are the launch of a variety of processors.
First up will be the launch of the Romley-EP made up of Xeon E5-2600 series processors plus C600 chipsets which will be followed by Itanium processors (Poulson) matched with 7500 series chipsets. According to industry sources, Romley-EP 4S and Romley-EN platforms are also on the roadmap.
Under the Xeon E5-2600 series 15 new processors will see the light, this includes eight-core E5-2690 priced at $2,057, six-core E5-2640 and E5-2609 as well as E5-2603, priced at $202.
The second quarter will see another launch, this time seven processors under the Xeon E5-2400 series with price ranging from $192 to $1,440.
