It’s been an interesting week for Intel and AMD, with all kinds of rumours and leaks hitting the net about upcoming hardware, but this one from TweakTown really stands out from the crowd. Reports suggest that AMD could be teaming up with Intel to put Radeon GPU tech into the next generation of Intel CPUs. This is a huge deal and would be an interesting evolution of the APU market from AMD combined with the high-performance CPUs from Intel.
Intel has worked hard on their own iGPU tech, but it still hasn’t really captured the market in the way they had hoped. AMD has made great advances with their iGPU hardware over the years and the two would make great partners.
“The licensing deal between AMD and Intel is signed and done for putting AMD GPU tech into Intel’s iGPU”. said Kyle Bennett on the HardOCP Forum “Intel in no way wants this to be public” he added.
With next-gen Intel CPUs, as well as technologies from AMD, who have Vegas, HBM2 and more, the future of CPUs could be very interesting indeed. It would certainly make the Intel and AMD fanboy arguments spin on their head for a few months, that’s for sure!
