Intel X299 HEDT Platform Launching May 30, Available in Stores June 26

According to BenchLife.info, Intel’s next X299 High-end Desktop (HEDT) platform will be unveiled at Computex 2017 on May 30 following a keynote speech by Intel’s Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Client Computing Group (CCG), Navin Shenoy at Computex. He was Intel’s general manager for the Asia Pacific Region responsible for marketing so he seems like a natural choice to address the Taipei crowd. The official announcement will be followed by general availability of hardware planned for June 26th.

Codenamed ‘Basin Falls’, the X299 HEDT platform will make use of 6-core up to 10-core Skylake-X CPUs with up to 44 lanes of PCIe 3.0 (four more than X99), and will support 2667MHz DDR4 (up from 2400MHz in X99). It is believed that part of the reason it is being pushed early is due to pressure from AMD’s upcoming X399 Ryzen HEDT platform with a 16-core, 32-thread that has been rumoured to be released soon as well.

There is no word on pricing yet, but if there will be four SKUs at launch, it is likely that Intel will continue with pricing the top model at $1,500 USD like with the Intel i7-6950X Broadwell-E launch.

The Computex 2017 tradeshow held in Taipei, Taiwan runs from May 30 through June 3 and showcases the latest in computer hardare. Unlike CES which has become mostly a showcase of gadgets and devices, Computex has remained mostly about hardware related to the PC.
