Intel are scheduling the release of some new Xeon processors in the E5-24XX series for the second quarter of this year. They “will work in single- and dual-CPU systems, and they will utilize socket 1356, which supports only 3 memory channels (one fewer than socket 2011) and only one QPI link” according to CPU World. The specifications range from 4 to 8 cores and 4 to 16 threads. 10MB of cache is present on the entry model all the way up to 20MB on the fastest model. Clock speeds are quite modest in order to maintain sub-95W TDPs with the highest clock speed being 2.3GHz. The fastest model will set you back a staggering $1440.
