Intel’s Core i7 4770K “Haswell” CPU Gets Review In China

Intel’s Haswell is getting closer and closer and despite already having one “Preview/Review” from Tom’s Hardware nearly 2 months ago we haven’t really seen much else about its performance up until now.

The first interesting revelation is that CPU-Z reads the CPU-VRM voltage not the CPU core voltage. So that news story we brought you about the i7 4770K being overclocked to 5GHz on 0.9 volts did indeed turn out to be misleading as we had suggested. In fact the core voltage was more likely to be around the 1.35 volts region.

The reviewers put the i7 4770K through a variety of CPU dependent tests compared to the i7 3770K at the same clock speed. As you can see the Haswell i7 4770K was better in everything except its memory read performance seems to be slightly lower than the Ivy Bridge i7 3770K.

The reviewer also did some base clock tweaking showing you how you can use 100/125/167MHz  base clocks and then change the CPU multiplier to get the same frequency. It also shows you how changing the BCLK does indeed change the RAM frequency due to the FSB to DRAM ratio which your motherboard uses.

Moving onto some gaming performance with a discrete GTX 660 GPU at 1080p we can see that the Haswell i7 4770K averages about half a percentage point better than the i7 3770K, once you factor in the outlier result of -4.4% it is actually 0.04% slower than the Ivy Bridge i7 3770K CPU. In effect their is a negligible difference in gaming performance.

Looking at the integrated GPU you can see the integrated HD 4600 graphics on the i7 4770K are miles ahead of the integrated HD 4000 graphics of the i7 3770K in all tests.

What are your thoughts on this information and these performance numbers?
