Intel’s Next-Gen LGA 1851 Rumoured to Be Exclusively DDR5

With Intel’s Previous generation, they chose to make the transition of DDR5 much easier by offering DDR4 boards alongside DDR5 for those not yet willing to fork out for the new generation. AMD on the other hand decided to just go all out with DDR5 which is looking also to be the case for Intel’s next generation officially phasing out DDR4.

LGA-1851 Rumoured To Be DDR5 Only

This information is currently just a rumour but it does stem from a mostly reliable source which is momomo_us who has often come with solid information on future hardware releases. Via VideoCardz, the claim is that Intel’s next-generation Arrow Lake processors which use the LGA 1851 socket will fully transition over to DDR5 which feels right seeing as DDR5 is about as cheap as DDR4 was when DDR5 first launched. Currently, you can grab 32GB of DDR5 Corsair Vengeance 5600 MHz from Scan.co.uk for £82 and the DDR4 equivalent Corsair Vengeance 3600 MHz 32GB are £69.98.

Additionally, momomo_us has also claimed that we won’t be seeing Arrow Lake until late 2024 but has also mentioned the Raptor Lake Refresh. This refresh is expected to launch in mid-to-late October with a second wave to follow in January 2024 for the full lineup.

The End of DDR4?

For new hardware Intel’s Raptor Lake will be the end for modern DDR4 in gaming systems however DDR4 is in no way outdated. For the foreseeable future, DDR4 still offers good value and good performance, especially for 32GB. It’s an easy upgrade to keep an older system powering through the next-generation games, especially as 16GB can be rough for some modern titles.

Have you transitioned over to DDR5 yet? Let us know your thoughts.
